Experiment to determine the presence of a single nucleotide Lab Report

Trial to decide the nearness of a solitary nucleotide polymorphism in a quality - Lab Report Example Factors, for example, the recombination of hereditary qualities and the rate or transformation assume a major job in deciding the thickness of SNP (Kwak, J. 2007). The thickness of SNP could be anticipated by the microsatellites nearness. The microsatellites AT nucleotides are the strong SNP indicators of thickness with the rehashed long tracts that can be found in territories of decreased SNP thickness and low substance of GC nucleotides. SNP in a populace is doled out the recurrence of a minor allele (Shastry, B. 2002). This includes the less recurrence of allele for SNP. So as to comprehend the event of a solitary nucleotide polymorphism, an examination was set to decide the nearness of a solitary nucleotide polymorphism in a quality. The materials that were utilized in the test include: Sample 1, which was the Lambda DNA(ÃŽ »DNA) that was processed with Hindlll, Sample 2, which was an oppressed DNA*PCR intensified for undigested WMIN quality, and test 3, which was an oppressed DNA * PCR enhanced for the quality WMIN that was processed utilizing Hindlll. The stacking cushion was added to the gave tests. The substance of the stacking support are a following color, bromophenol blue, and glycerol that made workable for the examples to sink into the well of stacking on the gel. During the investigation, the dispensable gloves were worn to lessen the sullying of DNAase from the fingers. Around 50 mL 0.8% w/v agarose gel was readied. Gelred was added to agarose gel (Su MC, Y. 2008). The agarose gel was set into the device of electrophoresis, having the wells on the dark finish of the cathode. TBE running support was added to cover the gel to a degree of 1-2 mm over the surface. About 4â µl amount of tests having 100ng DNA was stacked from test one to three inside the wells utilizing P20 Gilson. The cover was put on, the force turned on and changed in accordance with around 100 v. The force was run for around 30 minutes up to when the blue tracker color was about  ¾ of the gel. 7 Ways to Generate Referrals Without Cold-Calling

7 Ways to Generate Referrals Without Cold-Calling When we were kids, our nightmares were mostly based on ghosts, monsters and scary creatures our imagination lead us into believing they exist. As we grew older and changed, even our frights and fears evolved. If you are a businessman, entrepreneur, sales guru or a salesman at the beginning of the career, there must be one thing you are not a big fan of cold calls. What are cold calls?Cold calling is sales technic based on forming the contact with someone who hasn’t heard about our brand, service or a product, with the main aim of convincing them into buying your product, saying yes to your service or cooperation. So basically, your main task is to raise awareness about your company and score leads you can generate into sales. This technique can really upscale results, therefore it was really popular and efficient back in the days. However, people have changed since then, and it’s a bare fact that they don’t enjoy answering calls coming from unknown numbers or picking up their phone just to realize somebody is trying to sell them something. You probably feel the same when somebody tries to reach your private phone and amaze you with their offer (that most of the times you don’t need at all) and that’s why there is so much inconvenience when it comes to cold calling.People feel uncomfortable performing cold calls, potential customers share their discomfort, and there goes the effort you put into the wind.Does it really have to be like this?Well not, not at all.Developing alongside the technology and society, solid technics to avoid cold calling (yet achieve desired results) have come to our rescue. What are the alternatives and how you and your entire company can generate referrals without cold calling we teach you in the following article.7 WAYS TO GENERATE REFERRALS WITHOUT COLD-CALLINGNow we go deep into each of the 7 technics you can use to generate leads without cold calling. These technics have been proven to bring even better results than cold calling to some companies that chose to master them.If you choose that as well, we don’t doubt you’ll make it to the stars.1. Build Your Network of ReferralsLet’s face it, networking is considered to be one of the most important skills of 21st-century business. There are countless companies and business giants that build everything on the strong connections they had.Its true, building a strong network you can rely on isnt easy. And maintaining such a networks loyalty is even harder, but mastering this skill is proven to pay off enormously. You remember how we explained the behavior of an average citizen these days â€" not likely to answer your call as they don’t like being disturbed. On the other hand, we live in a modern world where the most practiced way to socialize is on social media networks. This is not a judgment but an observation â€" people spend more than 3 hours on average each day on their social media. If you check the infographic below, youll notice how much social media ha s developed in previous years and how important it became to us. Source: digitalinformationworld.comNo matter how old your targeted customers are, they will inevitably use technology in their own way.Of course, alongside the difference in age comes a difference in types of the preferred social media network. You can check the popularity of social media networks based on the age of the audience in the marketing chart below. Source: marketingcharts.comThis chart can help you determine where you can find your targeted group based on their interests and hobbies and define your strategy for approach.Don’t get us wrong â€" over usage of social media for entertainment is bad, but using social media in a smart way to get closer to your customers, build your own referral network and increase your business is an amazing opportunity window.Turning your head away from this opportunity would be wasting your business’ potential. In order to avoid that, we want to teach you how to build your network using social media.Start by asking yourself: Why do I use social media in the first place? How do I choose who I want to follow? How do I decide which brands I want to see on my dashboard?”These questions might seem basic, but will get you where you want to go, we promise. After you write down your answers (and it can be anything â€" be honest with yourself) we guarantee that you’ll find at least one common thing fo r all of the answers.Without further a due, we’ll uncover that answer for you: value. You use social media, you follow specific accounts, you choose what you want to see in your feed all with one cause: they bring some special value into your life. Now that you understand this concept, you have to ask yourself what is it that you can offer to your network that will bring values to their lives?Think about this and dont refrain from going deep into this topic. Its crucial to figure out what is your unique value proposition you can offer to your network and make sure you provide them with it constantly. It might sound scary in the first place. You might be wondering “Why do I have to give away my knowledge/skills/product/service for free? Who guarantees it will pay off?”We understand that you feel the risk, but kindly remind you that the scariest moment is always just before you jump.In order to empower you more, we encourage you to:choose a social media network or tool you find most relevant to your field (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, e-mail, etc.)define one thing your potential customers would find most valuable and possibly couldn’t get from anyone besides youoffer it to them for free for a month a see what happensOffering it for free in this context doesnt mean approaching them individually and offering your services for free like that, but constantly creating and posting content that will add values to their lives and start desire with them to follow you and eventually purchase everything you have to offer.By “giving away” your resources for free, you become more transparent and valued. People recognize what you know and start perceiving you as an expert.Once they see how your free material improves their lives, they will consider buying from you as an investment, not a cost. You will build your referral network and eventually generate even more leads from it.2. Focus on Your Current CustomersIn your search for new customers, it might sound controve rsial to focus on the current ones you have. But it is true.In order to continuously get new customers and ensure growth in sales for the long term, you must redirect the focus of your company on customers.Do you know what the most efficient way to gain somebodys trust is?Think about it from your perspective. If you wanted to buy, for example, a washing machine, you would probably not go just to any store and buy the first one that you see. What would you do in order to feel sure about buying some specific model of a washing machine? You would ask for recommendations, of course! And where do you get recommendations?Well, from happy customers, which means that your current customers need to be your number one focus if you want to grow your business. We have to mention social media once again and the huge effect it has on our lives.Sometimes we dont even ask our friends but check online what are people that we believe know the best are saying about some product. You can think about this as a n additional marketing strategy and engage an influencer to help you generate new leads. All in all, word-to-mouth marketing is a powerful tool. If you use it correctly, it can bring a lot to your business. And all you have to do is devote yourself to your customers and become completely customer-centric. They will know how to appreciate it and reward you for it.For example, you can ask them to recommend your brand if their expectations were met, and in most cases, they will do so.On the other hand, you probably wont even have to ask them, as people enjoy sharing the good things and news with others, so they will either tell their friends and family about your company or post a picture on social media where they will praise you. There’s no better promotion than the one coming from people who have experienced what you have to offer. Source: dunnhumby.com3. Ensure that Your Product is What the Market Needs at the MomentDo you know how many entrepreneurs fail each year just because they have taught that their idea is the best and that it will change the world?A lot, really a lot.The fact is, every idea is a good idea, but not every idea is good for each moment and each market. Thats what you have to think about.Instead of calling people and trying to sell them your product, how about researching whether they actually need your product or find it relevant for their lives? Please do not feel offended, as we believe that what you have to offer is really unique and something special. But we are not your customers, so the only group whose opinion you should worship is that of your customers. How to know what your customers think about you?Its really easy. There are different ways to approach your potential customers (without cold calling) and figure out whether your product makes a positive impact on their lives and adds v alue to it.There are a lot of forms, quizzes, and surveys you can ask your target group to fill in.The problem starts to develop when you have to recognize who was actually honest with you and whose opinion is relevant and useful for your idea. There is a good book every entrepreneur should read, and it talks about communication with (potential) customers and getting to the bottom of your market (figuratively). The book is called The mom test by Rob Fitzpatrick, and it teaches you how to ask the right questions in order to get honest answers. It is the perfect book for you to learn how to figure out whether your offer is actually needed in your market right now.Btw, its called The mom test because usually its toughest to get the honest opinion from our moms because they are always overprotective and want us to be happy, even if the cost for that is to lie and say something good about our product/service/company that they actually dont believe.Once you figure out how to ask good questio ns, go out and ask people. After you collect feedback, youll have a clear picture of how relevant your product to your market actually is, as well as what exactly you should do in order to make it more customer oriented.Once you get at least a couple of people on board with your product and ensure that their expectations are met, you will generate referrals more easily than you can imagine right now.4. Collect Feedback as It is Made Out of GoldAnd it really is! Someone once told me The best present you can get is honest feedback, and thats true. You can learn so much from the feedback you get and improve your product/service/company based on it.Who can help you improve your offer than people who end up using it?Make sure that you collect feedback regularly. It can be on a monthly bases through the general messaging system (a common newsletter or email for all customers) or more personalized approach (sending the message, calling each person to check on their satisfaction after the pu rchase, etc.).We recommend the more personalized one as this is the way to show that you care.By asking customers how satisfied they are with your product and service, you show that you care about their opinion and satisfaction and destroys any idea of you being in this business only for the money. So don’t be afraid of negative feedback! You should really appreciate when customers are being honest with you, as that shows that they believe in your brand and potential for improvement and want to stick around and help you get even better, so they can enjoy even more.“The mom test” should also help you learn how to collect feedback in a way that guarantees it’s honest.Getting the answers should definitely not be your last destination, as now the most important step is to analyze the data you have collected and built strategies for improvement. Its not easy to make modifications and improvements, but you have to stick to it until you reach your goal. The difference between the lead ers in the market and average players is that the best ones do all necessary things to become and stay the best, while the average ones only think about and talk about what they should improve.Talk the talk and walk the walk.Embrace the feedback, put your customer in the first place, define strategies for improvements and execute on them!Your current customers will notice the difference and make the extra effort to recommend you to everyone around themselves.5. Build Referral ProgramsTactics and strategies are half of the work nowadays, so why don’t we build a special tactic increase number of referrals? You’ve seen this before definitely.Almost every successful company build a referral program in order to gain more referrals.CEOs who are smart enough will recognize this opportunity as an amazing investment that can bring them a lot of new customers. If you, for example, charge for your product 300 dollars and promise to give your customer 50 dollars discount for next purchase if they bring you a new customer, you will highly increase your chances of getting that new customer. We all know somebody who knows somebody who could benefit from products and services we use as well on a regular basis. If we are satisfied with what we are getting and have an intention of purchasing it more in the future, why wouldnt we refer it to somebody we know could benefit from purchasing it as well?People sometimes need a little push, and thats exactly the effect you are going to get if you establish such program.Imagine that one satisfied customer refers to 10 new ones. That means that you would earn an additional 3000 dollars thanks to the recommendation. If you are afraid that it just isnt worth the effort when you give the customer their deserved share (10 x 50 dollars = 500 dollars), think again.Even without those 500 dollars, you have earned 2500 dollars, you wouldnt have if it werent for your customers recommendations. Some companies even build internal referral programs, specially designed for employees. if the culture in your company or organization is healthy and your employees enjoy working, you will have a higher chance of getting referrals.Just by promoting their work in your company, they raise awareness of your product. If you reward them by increasing their salary for some percentage each time they get you 10 new referrals, you will find yourself with new customers in no time. Its maybe the simplest way to build a referral program, as employees already have a strong belief in the company.Another interesting thing is that some companies choose to ask people who said “No” to them for referrals.Let’s face it â€" if you have made a contact and connection with somebody already and you see that you can’t close the sale, don’t make your time and work pointless.Offer them to still cooperate with you by referring their friends to you and award them for their help. They might be in love with your offer but just can’t afford it personally righ t now.Be thankful to your customers. Push them a bit to recommend you. Award them for being loyal to your brand and helping you grow your business. 6. Be Present on EventsIf you are familiar with your target group, then you know their habits and hobbies. You know whats important to them and what kind of events they visit.Heres the crazy idea: instead of boring and unpleasant cold calling, how about showing up on the events you know your target groups visits and talking casually and pleasantly about the things that are important to you? Here’s why this is so important:By showing up on events your target group visits, you get to know them and learn about themEven if you go individually, you represent your company and raise awareness about itBy showing up on events, meetups, seminars, and conferences you show that you are keen on learning and improving and that will help you gain peoples trustBy having pleasant talks with your potential customers, you increase your chances of them bec oming actual customersThere are even more positive sides of showing up on events, but lets keep it on this as there are the most important. Were sure that some additional are popping in your mind right now.If thats not the case, make sure you attend an educational event as soon as possible, so you can experience the benefits from the first hand.If there’s a chance for you to score a speaking place in the conference or seminar, you are playing to win.By showing up, sharing your knowledge and adding value to the people who came for the exact reason to gain value, you present yourself as an expert and your company as the one that can provide your target group with solutions.Go where your target group goes.Get to know your target group and build relationships. Share your knowledge and earn their trust.7. Be Unapologetically YouThis one goes without saying, but were going to say it anyway. Be yourself! Be authentic! Show your unique value proposition!Dont try to copy others and try thin gs that aren’t aligned with the brand you want to build just because it works for other people. It won’t work for you if it’s not true to your values.Bear in mind the fact that your product or service cant be good for and liked by everyone. Its the hard truth, and sooner you learn it, sooner youll devote yourself to people who actually value your company and what you have to offer. And that is the only important thing. If you present your brand too diverse and shop up in a lot of different fields, nobody is going to believe that you are an expert in anything. And you won’t be, due to the lack of focus.Instead of trying to be good for everyone, present everywhere, and somebody you obviously are not, stay true to your values, brand, and customers, as this will bring you more referrals than just showing up with average performance in different branches would ever.CONCLUSIONWhether you are a sales person eager to close more deals, CEO or entrepreneur, we believe that these technics will be more than enough for you to generate referrals and grow your business.Always remember to stay true to your values, put your customers in the first place and use all your resources wisely, and we strongly believe that everyone would recommend you and your business with huge joy.Good luck and stay the best!

Rhetorical Analysis The Rhetorical Triangle

Over the course of this semester I learned several skills and techniques this semester to improve my writing skills for the future. This class has helped me learn many skills that I did not know before I first walked in here. I personally feel that I have made an improvement in the acknowledgment I had in writing. One of the major writing principles that I will never forget is the rhetorical triangle for example, logos, ethos, and pathos make up the rhetorical triangle I used in my Rhetorical Analysis Essay. To illustrate this in the beginning of Tatum’s article she attempts to use logos to demonstrate her own view on racism. She believes racism is â€Å"a term used only for behaviors committed by whites in the context of a white dominated†¦show more content†¦This tells you the direction of my essay. Additionally, I learned the three types of keywords used in topic sentences which include the main idea, directional elements, and newness. The main idea is Tatum and Kozol both successfully make emotional pleas about racism in public schools in America. The directional elements are unsupported claims, unclear generalities, and irrelevant examples. The newness in my thesis is Tatum’s and Kozol’s arguments about racism in public education fails to convince general readers. When writing my research argument I included citations and quotes. I included citations to acknowledge the contribution of other writers in my work and it provided evidence to support the assertions and claims in my paper. For instance, Fighting words and true threats to inflict injury are types of speech that are more easily constrained than others (Ruane, 2014, p. 3). The Impact of Divorce on Children Free Essays

string(52) " than children whose parents have remained married\." The impact of divorce on children Angela Smith PSYC 210 James Varland Liberty University The impact of divorce on children The days of complete families that include mom, dad, the household pet, and several children hardly exist. These families have now been replaced with an increasing number of single parent households due to the increasing divorce rate since the 1970’s. (Price McKenry, 1988) What kind of impact does divorce play on children under the age of 18 years old today. We will write a custom essay sample on The Impact of Divorce on Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now As we journey into this research, we will see many things that effect children not only emotionally, but spiritually, physically, and mentally. Each of these problems can carry over to adulthood. What we may not realize is that divorce could affect everything up into adulthood of a child. Emotional scars could be left for life. The children are the ones that are left to suffer the most due to divorce. There is so much research on this topic. That alone shows that children are suffering in so many ways due to divorced parents. Divorce is a very stressful experience for any child, regardless of their age. Over half of American children will witness the breakup of a parent’s marriage.Among the millions of children who have seen their parents divorce, did you know that one in ten children will also go through three or more parental marriages? (The Abolition of Marriage, Gallagher) The death of a parent is less devastating on a child than a divorce. There are several areas and stages of pain that is dealt with within a child at the beginning of a divorce. They feel very vulnerable, they feel powerless over the situation, and they have feelings of anger and of course several feeling of guilt. Parents’ sensitivity to their child’s needs has to be a priority in the adjustment of the divorce. Then you need to consider the child’s age also. A preschooler’s reaction and an adolescent’s reaction will be very different from each other. Preschooler’s tend to be emotionally needy. They have fears related to abandonment, and may display acting-out behaviors. They are likely to become distressed during visit exchanges. (http://cpancf. com/articles_files/efffectsdivorceonchildren. asp) Children from ages 6 to 8 will likely fantasize about their parents but yet are less likely to blame themselves for the divorce. Then children ages 9 to 12 will have a better understanding of their parents divorce and the situation but yet may take the sides with one of the parents. Although adolescents understand and comprehend the divorce of their parents, they are faced with the divorce experience and also their own identities. Adolescents seem to mature more quickly after a divorce. They will take on more responsibilities at home; they learn to appreciate things like an allowance a lot more, and they also learn to gain insight into relationships with others. But on the other hand, they could be drawn into taking on the role of the parent and not be able to develop relationships with their own peers. According to research, there are many different approaches that you could take when talking to your children about the divorce. There are definitely ways of saying things at their level and ways to try and make it easier on that individual child. One thing that you have to remember is that there is no best age for a child for divorcing parents. One main thing that you have got to be sure and tell your child is that it isn’t their fault.Children seem to think, especially the younger ones that if I act better or get better grades in school, maybe mommy and daddy won’t be mad at me and leave me. Letting that child know that it isn’t their fault is very crucial for the child. It is very important to let that child know that both parents will still be a part of their lives. When talking to your child about the divorce, you need to keep your emotions under control. If the child sees that you are upset, that will also make them upset and the whole situation can be more complicated. Never, never speak negatively about your spouse in front of the child. Your child will need to know a reason but not all of the details. Negativity can cause your child to resent your spouse or you. Children are use to a routine. They will need to know what all will be changing in their life. The children need security. Put your differences aside and get along for the child’s sake. Always listen to your child or children and encourage your child or children to express their feelings. Children have problems finding words to express how they feel. Take the time to help your child understand what they are feeling. And allow the child to be honest.Reassure them that no matter what they have to say or how they are feeling, that neither of these are wrong. That it is okay for them to express themselves. While knowing what to say to a child when talking about divorce there are also things that should not be said when talking to them. Never try to buy your child’s love. Buying the child stuff will only make them feel good temporarily. That feeling will wear off. A child would rather have their parent’s undivided attention in opportunities and joys in life. Nothing can take the place of the love of a parent. The most important thing that I think that a couple should think of first is not to give up on your marriage. There are many alternatives to giving up and letting it end in divorce. (http://www. marriage-success-secrets. com/talking-to-your-child-about-divorce. html ) Statistics are done for very valuable purposes. As I bring some of these statistics to light for you, I think that you will be rather amazed. Children of divorce are at a greater risk to experience injury, asthma, headaches and speech defects than children whose parents have remained married. You read "The Impact of Divorce on Children" in category "Papers"Children living with both biological parents are 20 to 35 percent more physically healthy than children from broken homes. (Journal of Marriage and Family) Teenagers in single-parent families and in blended families are three times likely to need psychological help within a year. A study of children six years after a parental breakup revealed that even after all that time, these children tended to be lonely, unhappy, anxious and insecure. (Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) These statistics are surely frightful. And people and politics wonder why our American culture is so messed up.Families today doesn’t seem to believe in morals and they especially do not see the importance of what marriage is all about. God gave us a mate to be with forever. The instructions that God has given us in the Bible are very clear about marriage and divorce. In 1 Corinthians 7:10-14 says, â€Å"I command the married-not I, but the Lord- a wife is not to leave her husband. But if she does leave she must remain unmarried or reconciled to her husband- and a husband is not to leave this wife. But I (not the Lord) say to the rest: if any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not leave her. Also if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not leave her husband. For the unbelieving husband is set apart for God by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is set apart for God by the husband. Otherwise, your children will be corrupt, but now they are set apart for God. (Christian Standard Bible) Another passage that Jesus talks about in the Bible about marriage and divorce and makes Himself very clear about it is in Matthew 19:5 9,†(5)For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. 9) And I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery. † (Christian Standard Bible) This passage sums it all up on divorce. If you are considering divorce and do live by the Bible, I think that there are several things that you need to see and think about according to God’s standard before you actually divorce. This should be considered only in light of the most basic principles of scripture. Is the motive for the divorce Godly? Has the spouse sought advice of wise counselors? Is the divorce a last resort action to be taken? If humans today still lived by God’s standards, the divorce rate and all the problems that follow divorce would not be the way they were. There are so many people that divorce affects and to be greedy and only think of ones own self is inhuman. Even is you have failed with your marriage, there are ways that you can succeed with your divorce. Divorce and all the complications that come along with it can have a significant impact on the well being and development of both children and adolescents. The consequences of divorce can and will impact almost all areas of a child’s life. That not only includes the parent and child relationship but also the child’s behavior, emotions, coping skills, and psychological development. No wonder that there is a high demand for mental health professionals and other child specialists. As we have looked at statistics and some ways for the parents to deal with the divorce for the children’s sake, let’s put ourselves in the children’s shoes. What do you think is actually going through their mind? What questions do you think that they are thinking about and wanting to ask?According to the University of Missouri, these are some questions and thoughts that are probably going through a child’s mind during their parents divorce. I need both of you to stay involved in my life. I need letters, phone calls, and lots of questions asked to me. Please don’t fight and work hard to get along with each other. Try to agree on matters that relate to me. When you fight about me, I think that I have done something wrong. Please don’t ask me to send messages back and forth between the two of you. Please remember that I depend on both of you to raise me and to be a part of my life.I need both of you to teach me what is important and to help me when I have problems. Take a minute to imagine just what all goes on in a child’s mind when divorce happens. It is truly a sad situation. Now let’s turn the tables and take a look at some of the positive effects of divorce and children. Now that sounds crazy, right. That is what I thought also until I read some research done on this particular topic. Being a child of divorced parents and looking back, I can actually see some of the benefits that have been seen in the research.Of course no child wants to see their parents gets divorced but if you think about it no child wants to see their parent’s constantly fighting either. If there is any kind of abuse in the relationship, you could actually be hurting your children more by staying together. Children who have gone through divorce with their parents could reap the benefits of spending one on one time with each parent. Despite the difficulties of divorce, the one on one time is a great bonding opportunity for parents and children to experience. (http://www. helium. om/items/1355536-what-are-positive-effects-divorce-children) Just think about it for a minute. The quality time that each parent is able to spend with their child or children is actually increased after a divorce. The total focus of the parent on the child is much more valued now. Children can grow healthy in many types of divorce situations if the three key following conditions are met: first, the basic needs for the children must be met, such as love and physical care, understanding, discipline and safety; second, the children need a sense of belonging or being able to say, his is my family where I am important and a special person; and finally, they also need role models of both sexes in their lives to help them determine their proper male and female roles. (http://www. jesuschristismygod. com/index2b. html) Some female children come out of divorce growing into exceptionally good young women. It seems that girls and women strive on more responsibilities and challenges. They connect with their mothers and have deep ties with them. Child psychologist agree that keeping the strength of extended family intact is one of the best ways to provide a good structure for children to deal with divorce. In addition, when both parents have the full support of family and friends that were connected to the kids during the marriage that provides resources to turn to when things get difficult as the adults try to figure out how life as a divorced couple should work with kids. (http://www. articlesbase. com/divorce-articles/the-positive-effects-of-divorce-on-children-2745699. html) It is very important that the parents celebrate certain days, such as birthdays, and holidays, together with their children. This can and will show their children that there are values to be taken and at the same time show the role of a true mother and father relationship. As I sit here and think over all the research and statistics that I have read about and then think about my own situation as a child of divorce, I can identify with several of the characteristics that have been studied. First thing that comes to my mind was how my mom and dad handle the situation of divorce, They would talk bad about the other one in front of me and it seemed as if they were trying to win sides with me when actually all I wanted was both of their love. There was always arguing and fighting in front of me and my brothers which also caused me to grow up with a lot of hostility in me. Everything I did for years was prone to fighting and anger. I remember being took from my house to where my dad would stay for certain weekends and holidays and I all wanted was everyone together, As I look back on it now, I truly wonder if my parents had of made different and better choices due to their divorce and the sake of the children, would anything in my life been any different wit h my attitude or my outlook on things and especially family.I can remember blaming myself for several of the things that was wrong between my parents and also being a mediator between them. My grades in school did go down and I acted out to get the action I was lacking from having both of my parents there when I needed them. I guess that one good thing that did come out of my parents’ divorce was that I had a huge sense of survival and determination due to this divorce of my parents. I can also see where girls seem to make a strong tie with their mothers and become very strong women.I truly think that it has helped make me what I am today. I do not believe that I could of survived some of the abuse I have been through with drug addiction and recovery if I had not set my standards of survival at such a young age. There are so many ways that we can be coached and taught about what to do in this situation. It is a very sad case for a couple to have to come to this point in their lives today. Marriage is not seen as it should be. People take it for granted about having a lifelong mate and companion. We should all go back to the basis of the Bible but with the devil and the secular world taking over today, we as Christians have to stand up and play a huge role in our kids live. I have made a promise to myself that I will not repeat the cycle of my parents. Life is too precious and your children will be grown and gone before you know it. We endure enough pain in this world today and I refuse to allow anymore to be put into my children’s life due to me.This study has just made me a little more determined about living my marriage a a Christian example to my children and working through all the problems that marriage my bring in my direction. The statistics are growing but our God is even bigger. The extent at which personality traits can predict a persons leadership abilities

Table of Contents Introduction Personality traits and leadership The Great Person Theory Conclusion References Introduction Personality traits are viewed as the determinants of the differences that distinguish one individual from another. These traits include intellectual ability, physical attributes as well as personality. They dictate how moral or immoral a person is in regard to their dispositions which are referred to as character or qualities. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The extent at which personality traits can predict a person’s leadership abilities specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More A person’s true nature is thus regarded as his or her personality out of how consistent their character is over time (Whiteman et al 2003, p.3). On the other hand, leadership is portrayed as the ability to influence other people’s behaviour that results in making them believe or act through motivat ion. According to Lehman (2005, p.1), leadership abilities include vision, the ability to motivate others, emotional intelligence, ability to empower others, trustworthy, risk-taking, humour, focus and follow through. However, some personality traits favour leadership abilities whereas some do not. This paper critically analyses the extent at which personality traits can predict a person’s leadership abilities. Personality traits and leadership Various studies have clearly shown that there is a very close link between leadership abilities and personality traits. Many discussions about what makes an effective leader have also surfaced and the results all bend towards personalities. Each individual has distinct characteristics which are either strong or weak. This is the reason why some leaders are more effective than others whereas a number of people cannot lead at all. These studies have birthed the Big Five Personality Dimensions which are used to describe highly effective leaders (Langone, 2002, p.1). These dimensions include emotional stability, agreeableness, extroversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness. Emotional stability is a personality dimension that focuses on a person’s ability to handle criticism and stress. In addition, how secure and calm a person acts also determines their ability to control their emotions which is an essential component of leadership abilities. On the contrary, people who are unable to handle their emotions make weak leaders due to the fact that they their behaviour becomes inconsistent thus damaging relationships (Bryman, 1986, p. 34-35).Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? It encompasses trust, compassion, cooperation and understanding all which are vital traits of a highly effective leader. These traits enab le a leader to enjoy a harmonious relationship with his colleagues as he is able to get along well with them, a trait that commands respect and enhances performance. On the other hand, a leader who is not agreeable has a chaotic relationship with those under him and this result in disrespect and distrust which reflects negatively on the output. According to Langone (2002, p. 1-3), extroversion entails a person’s behaviour when in the company of others. The traits encompassed here include getting along well and easily with new people, being sociable, assertive, confident and being dominant. Openness to experience is another dimension when it comes to personality traits and it involves a person’s ability to be creative, imaginative and receptive of new ideas. Such a person has a range of interests which enable them to be effective leaders as they are intellectually curious and open to new experiences. Conscientiousness is the last dimension of personality traits and it focuses on a person’s ability to be persistent, responsible and success driven. Such a person sets goals and works hard towards meeting them without loosing focus. On the other hand, a person who lacks in conscientiousness makes a poor leader since he is easily distracted thus impulsive. We do not have perfect individuals with all the listed traits but many of them who make effective leaders possess a range of these personality traits (Langone, 2002, p.1-7). Leadership abilities are greatly influenced by personality traits according to Hogan (2003, p.1-3) who in his study cites that the two are synonymous. According to him, leadership is predicted by an individual’s personality and this determines how successful an organisation will be. He refers to four themes as being embedded in leadership which include competence, vision, integrity and decisiveness. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The extent at which personality traits can predict a personà ¢â‚¬â„¢s leadership abilities specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More To gain an edge in the organisation, the leader must be competent and must also be visionary about where he is taking the company. He must be a good decision maker and at the same time lead without favours. These personality or character traits are epitome in deciding whether one has the right leadership abilities or not. Personality traits predict leadership abilities as indicated in the study done by Herrmann (2009, p.2). In her perspective, personality traits contribute broadly to the success of an organisation in the sense that an effective leader performs highly. This is due to the fact that they are able to influence those working under them by using the special personality traits they possess. These traits distinguish them from other people in the company and lead to their being chosen as the torch bearers. The Great Person Theory Rating leaders through their person al traits is known as the Great Person Theory and this involves an assessment of their rare qualities which make them stand out. Great world leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill and Martin Luther King Junior come to mind and one cannot fail to marvel at their exemplary personal traits. These traits include their charisma, decisive nature as well as their prominent intelligence. Leadership ability is not restricted to behaviour as it expands further to physical features which include gender, build and height. It is therefore interesting to note that many successful leaders are taller and capable in matters of intelligence. In another perspective, height and intelligence as used in the Great Person Theory show emergence and effectiveness. It is therefore even more intriguing according to Wiggins et al (2006, p. 417) to note that studies carried on past American presidents showed that the more effective ones were the ones who were taller and intelligent. This was in comp arison to their shorter and less intelligent counterparts and the question on height and effectiveness does not fail to surface. Intelligence is well worth the challenge but a physical attribute such as height seeks a deeper explanation. The answer to this is that tall people are intimidating and their towering frames always command respect. Height stereotypes which glorify tall people more than short people still exist and these epitomises the tall ones as more forceful and talented in comparison to the short people. This therefore places tall people up the ladder with the notion that they are more influential and thus more effective in leadership. In addition, gender also dictates leadership abilities and this explains why there are more male leaders than female.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Studies have shown that when men are rated to women, they have higher chances of being chosen as task leaders in their groups whereas women score highly as socio emotional leaders. The personality traits that bring about these leadership abilities include that men are seen as more controlling and assertive as compared to women. On the other hand, women come through as more helpful and sympathetic hence the discrepancy (Wiggins et al 2006, p. 417 – 419). On the contrary, the Process Theory of Leadership seeks to differ with the Trait Theory whereby it focuses on leadership abilities as learned and not inborn. The argument here is that effective leaders are not born but made through processes or learning and apprenticeship. According to this theory, it only takes the will and desire to succeed in a leadership position and the rest fall into place. This process takes training, self study, experience and education which model people into ideal leaders. This theory further argue s that these attributes are not natural and acquiring them takes continuous study and work (Abujarad, 2010, p.2-3). This continuous process is what produces effective leaders who horn their skills on a daily basis to get to where they aspire to be. This they accomplish through the application of the acquired skills and knowledge as opposed to the Trait Leadership which cites that effective leaders are born and not made. However, an effective leader must posses other attributes apart from skills and knowledge and this is where personality traits rule. These attributes include character, ethics, beliefs and values which leaders are born with (Northouse, 2010, p. 4). In addition, it is important to note that a person’s behaviour largely lies on his personality. The decisions that people make are also influenced by their personalities which goes further into their attitudes and perceptions. This is the reason why some people make good leaders while others do not. Personality tr aits explain why some people are shy or cold while others are outgoing and loud. Personality traits help predict other people’s behaviour as well as their performance in a job scenario. Understanding personality traits helps pick leaders from non leaders as the abilities are out in the open. For instance, a shy and cold person cannot make a good leader since they have issues when it comes to interacting with new people and tend to withdraw to a comfort zone. A loud and outgoing person will make an effective leader as her will be able to form and grow relationships with those under him according to Achua (2010, p. 32-33). Conclusion This study focuses on the extent at which personality traits can predict a person’s leadership abilities. It is evident that leadership is synonymous with personality traits and there cannot be one without the other. The formulated theories by various researchers that include the Trait Leadership Theory and the Process Leadership Theory bot h present strong cases though they conclude that leadership takes both to be effective. This is in reference to highlighted traits which are inborn as well as the acquired ones. Personality traits in the long run predict the kind of a leader an individual can become. The Big Five Dimensions of personality traits affirm this by showing that an effective leader must posses at least four of the listed attributes which determine how influential one will be as a leader. How to Play Chinese Liars Dice

How to Play Chinese Liars Dice Throughout China, Liar’s Dice (è ª ªÃ¨ ¬Å Ã¨â‚¬â€¦Ã§Å¡â€žÃ© ª °Ã¥ , shuÃ… huÇŽng zhÄ› de shÇŽizi) is played during holidays, especially Chinese New Year. The fast-paced game can be played by two or more players and the number of rounds is limitless. Players usually agree to a predetermined number of rounds or set a time limit but none of that is set in stone; new players and additional rounds can be added as the game goes along. While the number of players and rounds may be casual, Liar’s Dice can also be quite intense as its traditionally a drinking game. In China, in addition to holiday celebrations, its also common to see it being played at bars, in clubs, and even outdoors at sidewalk restaurants. What Youll Need to Play Liars Dice One cup for each playerFive dice for each playerOne table How to Play the Game The first player, Player One, is determined by rolling the dice to see who has the highest number. Once play has started, the winner from the previous round goes first. If there are more than two players, decide in advance if the play will move clockwise or counterclockwise around the table. Each player has their own set of five dice. In some places, the dice you have is known as your stash. The total number of dice (five per player) is known as the pool. All of the players: Place the dice in the cup.All of the players: Cover the cup with your hand. All of the players: Shake the cup with the dice inside. All of the players: Place (or slam) your cup upside down on the table, keeping your stash hidden from view. All of the players: Lift the cup and look at the dice, being careful not to reveal what youve rolled to anyone else.Player One calls how many dice of a certain value are on the table. This number is based on the entire pool, including his or her own stash. For example, Player One could call out, â€Å"two fives.† At this point, the remaining players can either accept the call and move on to the next player, or they have the option of calling Player One a liar. (It doesnt matter whether Player One has a five or not. Bluffing is not only allowed- its actually encouraged. What matters is if the next player believes Player One is bluffing and calls him or her out on it.)If Player One is believed, the next person becomes Player T wo. Player Two must now call out a number that is of greater value than the previous call. For example, if Player One called out â€Å"two fives,† Player Two must call out a minimum of â€Å"three fives.† â€Å"Three fours† or four twos† would also be unacceptable. However, even if the numerical face value is higher, Player Two cannot call out anything less than three of something. (For example, two sixes is not a legitimate call.) Again, if the Player Two is believed, the play moves on to the next player. When a players call is not believed, he or she is called out as a liar. At this point, everyone must reveal their dice. If the player who made the call is correct, the player who called him or her out must pay the forfeit. If he or she is incorrect, the forfeit is theirs. Once the forfeit is paid, the round is over and the winner begins the next round. If its drinking game, the forfeit usually involves doing a shot of whatever the player is drinking. Of course, you dont have to drink to play Liars Dice. Forfeits can also be money or some form of token.Subsequent rounds simply repeat the actions of the first until the predetermined number of rounds or the time limit is reached- or the players simply decide to call it quits. Tips for Players of Liars Dice In some versions of the game, the one is considered a wild number, which means it can be played as any number between two and six.Beware of cheaters who use the edge of their cup to turn their dice as they return it to the table after seeing what theyve rolled. When the venue becomes too noisy, players often use hand signals to indicate their calls rather than shouting them out. The first number is the how many, the second number is the value of the dice. The hand signals are as follows: One: Hold up your hand and extend the pointer finger upward. Two: Hold up your hand and extend the pointer and middle fingers upward into a V-shape (like a peace sign).Three: Hold up your hand and extend the pointer, middle, and ring fingers upward.Four: Hold up your hand and extend the pointer, middle, ring and pinky fingers upward.Five: Hold up your hand with all five fingers extended upward (like a stop sign) or pinch all five fingers together.Six: Fold the pointer, middle, and ring fingers into a fist and extend the thumb and pinky fingers outward.Seven: Make a fist and extend the thumb outward and pointer finger downward.Eight: Make a first and extend the thumb upward and the pointer finger forward (like a gun).Nine: Make a fist, extend the pointer finger and curve it (like making a C).Ten: Make a fist or using two hands, extend the pointer finger of the right hand upward and with the left hand extend the pointer finger to the right and cross it with the right hand forming a sig n.

Their Eyes Were Watching God Quotes

'Their Eyes Were Watching God' Quotes Their Eyes Were Watching God is a novel by Zora Neale Hurston. Its the story of Janie Crawford, who returns home and tells the story of the last 20 years. Quotes From the Novel These sitters had been tongueless, earless, eyeless conveniences all day long. Mules and other brutes had occupied their skins. But now, the sun and the bossman were gone, so the skins felt powerful and human. They became lords of sounds and lesser things. They passed nations through their mouths. They sat in judgment.- Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Ch. 1Janie saw her life like a great tree in leaf with the things suffered, things enjoyed, things done and undone. Dawn and doom was in the branches.- Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Ch. 2You know, honey, us colored folks is branches without roots and that makes things come round in queer ways. And look at the way he painted it- a gloaty, sparkly white.- Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Ch. 5 Janie loved the conversation and sometimes she thought up good stories on the mule, but Joe had forbidden her to indulge. Tourism Master - Assignment Example Like in any other country, heritage tourism in USA is advancing in huge strides for the last one or two decades now, and Government has realised the importance of promoting tourism in rural America, and here, heritage and cultural tourism have been given more importance. Tourism has become today, one of the biggest industries in the world and has proved beneficial in many ways. USA has decided to showcase its immensely rich heritage, mainly of Native Americans, less of immigrants who occupy the whole of America today. Heritage tourism also covers historical conflicts, fight for freedom, wars for freedom, fight for civil rights and the resulting battles that have left inerasable footprints on sand of time. Today's tourism can never exist without preservation, which has become the most pertinent issue all over the planet. USA, a huge country with unlimited possibilities, is today encouraging heritage tourism while carefully preserving its own innumerable heritage sites, mainly that of Native Indians.Eco Tourism and Sustainable Tourism, though almost identical, are not the same. Eco Tourism is more about the nature, its preservation, whereas sustainable tourism is about nature, but about the living beings on the particular land and is of the opinion that tourism should help the locals, while retaining the planet's pristine garb as clean as possible. On 7th October 2003, WITC came out with the Blue print of New Tourism. "The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) today revealed its Blueprint for New Tourism, which issues a call to action for both government and the industry to make several long-term commitments to ensure the prosperity of Travel & Tourism - one of the world's largest industries, responsible for 200m jobs and over 10% of global GDP1". In heritage tours, areas with extreme environmental threat have to be avoided. Sustainable tourism argues that local community should be financially benefited, so that, they take the initiative of preserving the environmental sensitivities and fragile areas of biodiversities. It has to be seen that economic requirement should not override environmental concerns. Proper guidelines have to be formed on how the nature parks and heritage sites and wildlife sanctuaries have to be preserved. American tourism calls for awakening our senses to natural beauty and national heritage. Amazing heritage sites also offer well-planned, thrilling holidays, because for some tourists, unmixed heritage tours could be dull and uneventful. Wildlife has firmly become part of all tourisms including heritage and cultural tourisms. CASE STUDY: TOURISM IN UTAH, ITS HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS: Utah, one of the prominent states in USA has been chosen for the case study, as this State is perhaps the best State capable of showing the most vivid kaleidoscope of America's heritage. The State is divided into: Mining County, Carbon/Emery County, Salt Lake County, Summit County, Tooele County, Utah County, Central Utah, Eastern Utah, Southern Utah, mainly depending on its vibrant and violent background. http://history.utah.gov/mining_heritage_alliance/miningmap.html Utah has a population density of 21 people per square mile, (increased at the rate of 15% since 1982), and with a developed land increase of 24% between 1982 and 19922 and this has resulted in 30% loss of wetlands since 1780 and it is the home of 38 threatened and endangered species. For outdoor enthusiasts there is no better place than Utah to ski or snowboard, mountain biking or white water rafting, or to visit the legendary Old West, with all its hidden and trapped glories and fables, who, unfortunately

FOOD AND BIVERAGE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

FOOD AND BIVERAGE - Essay Example In order to cut-down costs and gain significant revenue, companies in the hospitality industry prioritized research-based branding strategies, to their specific target group in order to acquire corporate identity and quality service (Morgan, Pritchard and Pride). Distinguishing their brand image and differentiation of their product became of primary importance for all hospitality firms (hotels, restaurants etc). In the recent years, many international hotel firms have turned to a major branding strategy called co-branding. In this concept an existing restaurant is incorporated within a hotel, a practice considered to have been started by Victor Bergen during the 1930’s, establishing fast food outlets in hotels on the highway which had a customer base of American families travelling away from home. The incorporation of this model to the modern hotel industry has been observed to change dramatically both consumer attitude and hotel management (Rutherford). This review plans to a nalyze the current position of strategic co-branding in the hospitality sector and how the tourism industry could be benefited. Furthermore, possible problems are discussed and recommendations to potential managers wanting to employ strategic co-branding techniques are given. 2. Co-branding definition While co-branding doesn’t have a single definition, it generally involves the strategic alliance of at least two firms (Knowles, Diamantis and El-Mourhabi). It has also been described as â€Å"a form of cooperation between two or more brands with significant customer recognition, in which all the participants’ brand names are retained† (Blackett, Boad and Interbrand). Furthermore, Hilyer (Hillyer and Tikoo) explains the definition of co-brading when a product features more than one brand name. Among all these definitions, some common characteristics can be identified. The fundamental part in co-branding is the requirement of two or more brands that are widely recog nised while the brand name is kept intact and the duration of the whole project varies between medium to long (Kippenberger). Therefore, co-branding can be interpreted into reality in two manners: either joining two brand names together in forming a new or unique product or having two recognised brands under the same space, such as T.G.I Fridays within Holiday Inn hotel (Hahm and Khan). 3. Notable examples of Co-branding Based on the model used in the early 1930’s, with Bergen’s restaurants and hotels, the hotel industry began to employ co-branding strategies when it was faced with unprofitable sales. Today a large variety of hotels and restaurants use co-branding as a means of enhancing distribution of products or services together with increasing the range of their customer base, helping them to reach maximum profitability (Boone). Marriot Hotels is considered on of the pioneers of the chain hotels to be the first to implement an internationally recognised brand such as Pizza Hut in 1989 (Boone; Kippenberger). Following their example, the co-branding of TGI Fridays within Holiday Inn hotels turned out to be a financial success. After the conversion of the Pennsylvania Holiday Inn restaurant to TGI Friday’s, the increase from $450,000 to $4 million within the first year only

My Philosophy of Teaching Essays -- Philosophy of Education

Philosophy of Education Throughout the history of education, there have been many different philosophical views. The views have varied from Plato's "The Republic," to Rousseau's "Emile". Plato believed that the purpose of education was to create a perfect city-state, while Rousseau believed that the purpose was to develop people, who freely choose good. Both of these philosophies cooperate with my beliefs; however, my beliefs do differ in some aspects. Through my philosophies covering the nature of humans, curriculum, and teaching methods I hope to better educate the students and America a better place to live. First, I believe that humans are naturally good. The environment that a child grows up in affects the way that they act. Children are easily manipulated and I believe that the people in their early years are the ones that influence them the most. I believe the most important influences in a child's life are his parent and his teacher. In my own experience, I remember my kindergarten teacher spanking me when I was younger for no apparent reason. I could not figure out why she was doing this to me and it hurt my self-esteem, which made me not even want togo to school. However, my parents helped me Iovercome these problems. My parents influenced me to work harder and be myself no matter what. I would have to say that my parents were the biggest ~nfluence of my life; the things they taught me will stick with me the rest of my life. Secondly, I believe that everybody is born in certain classes. Like Plato, I believe there are classes with into which you are born. I believe that there are born leaders and then the children who do not have the same opportunities. I think you have to separate the two as soon as po... ...uate assistant on the Baseball field, while getting my masters in sports management. After that, I plan to coach college or high school baseball and teach physical education, hopefully for my alma mater Southeast High School. My goal is to become an athletic director, teacher, and coach at the same time because we all know that is where the money is. If a graduate assistant job does not open up, I plan to coach high school baseball and take night classes at Kent State for my masters. Furthermore, all aspects of teaching are important. As teachers, we hold the future of America in our hands with educating the youth. All aspects of teaching are important in shaping the youth of America. With the philosophies of some of the worlds greatest thinkers ever and with some philosophies of our own, I hope we can bring theeducation of America's youth to a higher level.~

Where Women Lead The Show †Renoir’s Acrobats At The Cirque Fernando, 1879

Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Acrobats At The Cirque Fernando, 1879 shows two young girls, most probably between twelve and fifteen years of age, taking turns to perform their act at the circus. One of the young girls is carrying balls around her chest while the other is communicating with the audience as part of her act. The girl who is communicating with the audience has a questioning, innocent expression on her face. The one who is carrying balls is possibly waiting for her turn to perform. She, too, is innocent and fresh in appearance as the other. However, she seems to be dwelling on her new experiences of semi-adulthood. Perhaps she is musing on the boys in her life – the young men who admire her very much. The audience depicted in the painting, behind the bodies of the two young girls, appears to consist of men alone after all. The men appear like judges, in their black coats, giving them the semblance of uniformed officers. Only one of the men has his face visible through the painting, and the face is hard enough for the girls to display their innocence in all its glory with the assumption that the counterpart of a harsh and doubtful attitude must be softness. Although the girl carrying the balls has her back turned toward the hard faced man, she knows that she too would have to perform. The expressions of the male and the females in Renoir’s Acrobats At The Cirque Fernando, 1879 are rather similar to the expressions of the two sexes depicted in many of the artist’s works of the time. The woman is seen as the adored and innocent object that performs, even though the man is hard faced, perhaps weary of the work that he performs to fend for his family day after day. The woman is the amuser, the muse, and the object of entertainment to fend for. After all, she is beautiful. The only beautiful facet of the man is that he is strong – in Renoir’s paintings, at least. What is more, the man is always staring at the woman in Renoir’s works. He fondles her whenever he has the chance. The woman remains faithful to him – this is depicted through the innocence on her face. If she becomes unfaithful she knows that the hard faced man would discontinue supporting her. The French word for ‘thank you’ is merci, which, if used in English, perfectly describes the attitude of the woman in late nineteenth century Paris. Although Paris was one of the first places in the west where women were generally believed to have been liberated, Renoir’s painting reveals that the women were definitely not liberated through promiscuity or debauchery. Rather, the urban Parisian women in the late nineteenth century seem to have been given permission by their men to be out and about, entertaining them, while remaining faithful to their innocence as well as their marital vows. As the facial expression of the young girl carrying the balls in Renoir’s Acrobats At The Cirque Fernando, 1879 reveals – women understood their position in Parisian society even as they were aware that men and women are equally dependent on each other. Perhaps they also knew that men could turn violent against the woman – the epitome of mercy – and that their partners may very well become harsh and cruel if they were not obeyed according to divine laws that are believed to demand that they become subservient unto men. Although these beliefs continue to be nurtured in many parts of the world, Renoir’s Acrobats At The Cirque Fernando, 1879 is a reminder that divine laws may have been misconstrued as well!

Issues in Philippine Cinema - 5002 Words

1. What is your assessment of the state of media research in the Philippines? Choose a particular form of mass media and identify three (3) major issues and concerns besetting it. To what extent has research been made on such issues and concerns? Cite concrete cases to prove your point. The Philippine film industry, considered by many critics, producers, directors, movie workers, is either slowly but surely dying or is already dead. Notice the use of the term Philippine film industry instead of Philippine cinema. This is such for the main reason that the people who deem filmmaking in the Philippines dead, qualify their assumption based on box-office returns and the profit their movies make. Hence it is more apt to use the term film†¦show more content†¦Price of Pirated DVDs (Php) 2001 343,945,225 999 0 2002 286,243,403 850 450 2003 393,642,659 750 150 2004 286,056,735 500 80 Table 1 Rahmans major research findings on the economic damage caused by pirated DVDs to the film industry were anchored on the above table. The sharpest decline experienced by the film industry was between 2001 and 2002 with the boom and existence of DVD piracy that started in 2002. It can be deduced that the most likely decline in the income of movies was caused by the popularization of pirated DVDs that equaled the quality of legitimate ones. The introductory price for pirated DVDs were at it s highest at Php. 450 a piece, though expensive compared to current prices in Quiapo, it was still relatively cheap during 2002 compared to the pricey Php. 999 of an original version. Come 2002 to 2003, income for the film industry grew, original DVDs were also sold at cheaper prices but so was the pirated ones. Nevertheless, Rahman et al attributed this increase in income to the appointment of Ramon Ravilla Jr. as the chairperson of the Videogram Regulatiry Board, a government agency assigned to co mbat piracy. The researchers added that Revilla was considered to be hard-working and serious by his fellow-workers and news reports support these claims. Finally income for the film industry declined once more from 2003 to 2004 and at the same time the price of pirated DVDs was at its lowest being 6 times cheaper than legitimate copies.
